This just dawned on me as I was playing the clip for the song Fire at Misakman's 1001 Greatest Songs Of All-Time and checked out the album cover. How 'bout Rock and roll trailblazer Jimi Hendrix and gravity-defying hoopster Dr. J himself Julius Erving. Did you know that before morphing into a rock legend and doing his own psychadelic thing Jimi cut his teeth by playing the R&B circuit as a sideman guitarist for some of my favorites on that same 1001 list such as Little Richard and the Isley Brothers? And that Dr. J was the biggest star in the old ABA league and was the most compelling reason for the whole merger with the NBA? If you didn't know then you do now whether you like it or not.
