His Killer Grids (w/Total Score of 1...or 0!)
Ok here you go baseball triviots! These you could call Misakman's Greatest Hits. The daily baseball quizzes I played at Immaculate Grid: Baseball (consisting of 9 cubes each with its own particular 2-part question) where I received a 9 cube total score of 1 or even 0! Since the objective of the game is to get the lowest point total possible relative to the obscurity of your player choices, you can't do any better! The grids where I could only manage a 2 or higher are not included. Only the creme de la creme is presented here for your baseball lore edification. If you happen to play the game a lot then these killer cubes should doubtless help you in the future.
As you will see, most of the guys I pick come from a certain timeframe. In my case it's '63-'79 corresponding to the years I paid most attention to Topps baseball cards which would then be the '64 set through the '80 set. I touched upon this at the intro to Misakman's Unofficial MLB Immaculate Grid Help Guide #1 so you may be aware of that already if you happened to have checked that section out first. Anyway, I often went further back in time for my answers and sometimes though not very frequently went into the'80s and later.
This game is ridiculously insanely fun and you can access it through MLB Stats, Scores, History, & Records | Baseball-Reference.com also where you go there and click Play Now where they mention the game on their home page.
I have made sure by keeping a log of my answers not to have any duplicates here where I answered the same question with the same answer on any other cube. I may use the same guys over again even several times but only when the question is totally different (both parts of the question) or is half new (1 part of the question). For instance, if I use Danny Cater once for Red Sox/Yanks then I may use him again for Phils/White Sox (totally different) or Red Sox/A's (half different) down the road. I wanted to keep the grids fresh and interesting and not include any rehash. This limits the amount of "Killer Grids" that get up here but that's my policy so it's never the same old same old though yes, it could be similar...
Consider for example the Texas Rangers/HOF cube. It's here somewhere where I went back in my time machine and picked HOFer Minnie Minoso for he played with the "New" Senators team of the '60s that eventually moved to Texas and that counts. Whenever that Texas Rangers/HOF cube shows up again I can't make that day's cube a Misakman Killer Cube since whoever else I pick will be well over 1%. It doesn't matter who else I might try....Gaylord Perry, Bert Blyleven, I-Rod, Vlad Sr., even Goose Gossage...it ain't happening. Doesn't mean I can't still have fun and play it's just that it's not going to be a classic and wind up here on the Misakman site. I don't want to bore you (or myself) seeing Minoso here again for the same exact thing.
Anyway, I have a good amount of Killer Cubes to present to you here regardless. I hope you have a blast checking 'em out. I really took my baseball stuff pretty serious when I was a kid and still do but maybe not to that extent. I seem to remember just about everything and when I review stuff it comes back very quickly. I imagine if I studied my Bible as much I studied the baseball cards (and the Baseball Encyclopedia to fill in any gaps) I would probably be Pope by now. Where were my priorities?
The large majority of these cubes were done on the first shot. If I felt I got hosed by the Grid Gods or made a stupid mistake where I wasn't concentrating I did it over and got the 1 or 0 I thought I deserved. Sometimes I might try a guy just because he's different and I want to see a new face but then it doesn't work out. Why does Merv Rettenmund come up so high for his non-Orioles teams? At that point I just go back to an old standby I had in my back pocket anyway and nail my Killer Cube just for you! One stupid mistake I've done a few times is use the Senators for the Nationals. When you see the W logo you sometimes think all previous Washington teams, especially if you haven't had your morning coffee yet, but they don't apply and you should thinking Montreal Expos. They count for the Nationals since they morphed into them after the 2004 season but you have to flip the Washington (Nationals) W upside down to get the Monteal (Expos) M before you hastily pick a Senator player and get a wrong answer. Oooooh that pisses me off! That's a re-do. I ain't goin' out like dat!
OK friend! Take a look-see at the 130+ I have aced so far and indulge yourself!
